Communities

A TravelSmart Community is a partnership between households and local government to increase use of environmentally-friendly transport across the whole community. Environmentally-friendly transport includes public transport, walking, cycling and car pooling.

Like other TravelSmart programs, TravelSmart Communities supports voluntary behaviour change by improving access to information, providing opportunities and motivation for participants to trial alternative ways of travelling around.

Benefits of participating in a TravelSmart Community project range from individual health and financial benefits through to community impacts such as less pollution, improved community health and well-being and improved community safety.
